City Visions is an initiative started by KDHX TV to develop, encourage and otherwise support the growth of independent media arts in St. Louis by providing the access, training and environment needed to support the creative vision of St. Louis media artists. City Visions believes that a stronger media arts community can be built through four critical ways: resources, exposure, community and education. Each component of the initiative has been developed to foster these concepts. Following are details on each specific component:

48 Hour Film Project (Community & Exposure):

KDHX TV's City Visions is the official St. Louis host of the nationally renowned 48 Hour Film Project. The 48 Hour Film Project is the hottest new filmmaking experience in the country - filmmaking teams come together and have only 48 hours to produce a movie-from scratch. Congratulations to the 36 St. Louis teams that participated in the project. If you happened to miss the event, check out our short documentary or watch all of the 2005 films here.

A DVD containing all films in the "Best of" the 48 hour film project St. Louis 2005 is available on-line for $17. (including shippping)

The 48 Hour Film Project is supported in-part by The Pageant, The Moolah Theater & Lounge, the Regional Arts Commission and the Missouri Arts Council, a state agency.

Every second counts when you only have 48 hours to make a film!

Coming Up Shorts (Resources):

City Visions has an opportunity for local media artists to make 3-minute shorts with the help of KDHX TV. KDHX TV will provide the selected artists with all the resources necessary to make their short video (including a $100 honorarium.) These videos will screen on KDHX TV as "Bumpers" between our scheduled programming and at an annual showcase.

Behind The Lens & St. Louis Film Gallery (Exposure):

City Visions is producing a bi-weekly 30-minute television program highlighting the St Louis Film and Video Community called Behind the Lens. Roberta "Bobbie" Lautenschlager, a St. Louis Film Producer and Screenwriter, interviews local directors, actors and film and video professionals and shows their short films and videos. In addition to Behind The Lens, City Visions is creating a St. Louis Film Gallery on its web page with streaming versions of local films. If you would like your short film to be considered for Behind The Lens or be a part of the St. Louis film gallery, please submit it to:

KDHX TV
Attn: Behind The Lens/Film Gallery
625 N Euclid Ave, Ste 100
St Louis, MO 63108

River City B-Rollers (Community):

The River City B-Rollers is a documentary salon that meets once a quarter to screen regionally produced documentaries and discuss them. In essence, we talk about the creative, technical and financial challenges of directing and producing documentaries in the St. Louis area. The documentaries are screened as part of the Webster University Film Series and are accompanied by a panel discussion that includes the filmmakers and the subjects of the film.

If you would like to be on the email list that would inform you of River City B-Rollers screenings please contact Doug Whyte at doug@kdhx.org or at 314-361-8870 x229.

Missouri Breaks: Documentaries Enjoy A Renaissance in St. Louis" by Doug Whyte. The article appeared in May 2005 issue of the magazine International Documentary.

STLFILMWIRE (Community):

KDHX TV hosts the STLFILMWIRE community, an e-mail list of St. Louis based filmmakers and actors. The listserv, started by Adam Hackbarth in 2001, allows the local filmmaking community to communicate and collaborate. Postings include crew calls, casting calls, screening dates, funding opportunities and festival information. Filmmaking Workshops (Education):

City Visions is partnering with the Webster Film Series to present Filmmaking Workshops with nationally recognized film directors. These filmmaking workshops will give artists a rare chance to learn filmmaking techniques and get advice from some of the most innovative and successful independent filmmakers in the country.

Workshop #13

KDHX TV and The Webster Film Series are proud to present a free Filmmaking Workshop with veteran animator Suzan Pitt:

Suzan Pitt will conduct a free workshop on the many production processes which are possible in experimental animation.
